It is the year 1814. Facundo Ocampo is a twelve-year-old boy who finds himself caught up in one of the bloodiest wars in human history: the war that marked the beginning of Venezuela’s emancipation and that of other Spanish colonies after three hundred years of exploitation in the Americas.
Spanish General José Tomás Boves is the warlord tasked with extinguishing the flame of Venezuelan independence at any cost. Boves gains followers by sowing terror and allowing the most brutal abuses; furthermore, he threatens to destroy, with his abhorrent methods and bloody strategies, not only the young free republic but also the dominions of the king himself.
The republic is lost, the tyrant grows stronger… and it seems that neither patriot nor king can stop him.
